How Telmisartan And Amlodipine Tablets Work

UTELMI-AM is based on two synergistic mechanisms. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker, which blocks the action of angiotensin II on its receptors in blood vessels and adrenal glands. The consequence of this action is vasodilation and inhibition of aldosterone secretion; thus, it leads to a decrease in arterial pressure and reduces the load on the heart. Amlodipine belongs to a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium-channel blockers which inhibit the transport of calcium ions into the blood vessels and cardiac muscles; therefore, there is peripheral vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance.

Dosage and Administration

UTELMI-AM Tablets are meant to be used orally, taken once per day at the same time, either before meals or with meals, as directed by a qualified physician. You must avoid changing the dosage or stopping the administration of the drug without consulting your healthcare provider, as withdrawal of the drug can result in a sudden elevation in your blood pressure levels. Side Effects

Precautions and Warnings

• Contraindicated during pregnancy; women who are of childbearing age must use adequate means of contraception.
• Check blood potassium and creatinine levels regularly, particularly for diabetics and CKD patients.
• Do not combine this drug with NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, or antihypertensive drugs without medical consultation.
• Caution must be exercised in patients with aortic stenosis or myocardial infarction recently experienced.
• Dizziness may affect driving ability; use caution when driving or using machinery.

Contraindications

UTELMI-AM is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Telmisartan, Amlodipine, or any component of the formulation. It is absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy (second and third trimester). It should not be used concurrently with Aliskiren in diabetic patients.
