Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate Dry Syrup
ULOXY-CV Dry Syrup
ULIOXY-CV Duo Dry Syrup is a paediatric antibiotic suspension comprising Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate. It is a formulation that works to cure various bacterial infections in children, using the antibacterial property of Amoxicillin along with the beta-lactamase inhibitory property of Potassium Clavulanate. It is manufactured under strict quality guidelines and comes in the form of a dry syrup for oral suspension available in the quantity of 5.5 gm/30 ml.
ULIOXY-CV is a 30 ml dry syrup pack, made in accordance with WHO-GMP certification requirements and including Water for Injection (WFI).
Composition
- Amoxicillin
- Potassium Clavulanate
Uses and Indications
ULOXY-CV Dry Syrup is prescribed by paediatricians, ENT specialists, and general physicians for the treatment of bacterial infections in children, including:
- Acute otitis media (ear infections) caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms
- Acute sinusitis and upper respiratory tract infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia in children
- Tonsillitis and pharyngitis due to susceptible bacteria
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in paediatric patients
- Skin and soft tissue infections including impetigo and infected wounds
- Bite wounds (animal or human) prone to polymicrobial infection
How Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate Dry Syrup Works
ULOXCY-CV utilises a dual approach in its mode of action. Amoxicillin is an aminopenicillin antibiotic which disrupts the bacterial cell wall through the inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Unfortunately, the majority of bacteria have beta-lactamase enzymes which render Amoxicillin inactive. Potassium Clavulanate is an enzyme inhibitor that inhibits the beta-lactamase enzyme, thus allowing Amoxicillin to exert its activity against the resistant bacterial strain. It is a synergistic drug whose mode of action greatly expands the scope of the antibacterial effect on several pathogenic organisms.
Dosage and Administration
ULOXY-CV Dry Syrup is to be used orally only. Dilute with the supplied WFI water up to the marked level in the bottle and shake vigorously before administration. Take an accurate measurement using the dosing syringe provided. Dosing, frequency, and duration of treatment shall be strictly adhered to, depending on the child’s body weight, type of infection, and severity of the condition. The preparation can be taken with meals to reduce stomach irritation.
Side Effects
ULOXY-CV is generally well tolerated in children. Some patients may experience mild and transient side effects, including:
- Diarrhoea or loose stools (most common, particularly with Potassium Clavulanate)
- Nausea or vomiting
- Abdominal discomfort or bloating
- Skin rash or itching
- Rarely, hepatic dysfunction or cholestatic jaundice (more common with prolonged use)
- Rarely, severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis in penicillin-sensitive individuals
Patients experiencing persistent or severe side effects should discontinue use and consult their physician promptly.
Precautions and Warnings
- Only on prescription by a suitably qualified healthcare professional
- Notify your doctor of any previous allergic reaction to penicillins, cephalosporins, and beta-lactam antibiotics
- Caution is recommended in children with hepatic disorders where monitoring of liver function may be necessary
- If diarrhoea occurs during or after treatment, C. difficile associated diarrhea must be considered; seek medical advice
- Continue the complete course of the prescribed antibiotic even if the child recovers before its completion
- The reconstituted medicine should be used within 7 days of storage in the refrigerator
- Keep out of reach of children and use only under adult supervision
- Not to be used in children with infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever) due to risk of a rash
Contraindications
ULOXY-CV is contraindicated in children with known hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin, Potassium Clavulanate, penicillins, or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with a history of Amoxycillin/Potassium Clavulanate-associated cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction.
